The Ocean House Waikiki Restaurant Review

The Ocean House Waikiki Restaurant Review

We visited The Ocean House for a delicious Waikiki breakfast!  Please enjoy this brief review of the pleasures of this wonderful ocean-view restaurant.

When visiting Waikiki, be sure to dine right on the beach at least once.  There are so many options for dining near the ocean, but it can sometimes be hard to get a reservation, especially on the weekends.  We hadn’t really scouted out any dining options prior to our trip, deciding to play it by ear and see what came up!  We were so pleasantly surprised to find this wonderful beach restaurant, The Ocean House.  The restaurant is part of the Outrigger Reef Hotel on Kalia Road, the main drag in the Waikiki area.

The breakfast menu at the Ocean House is exactly what one would expect to find at any fine dining establishment, but with the addition of uniquely Hawaiian touches.  I mean where else in the world can you find Macadamia nut syrup for your pancakes? Not to mention that the view from this restaurant is so calm and serene, and you can hear the waves gently hitting the shore. On this particular morning we got to witness a hula class in progress on the beach, so it was an even better view.

For my breakfast I ordered the North Shore Omelet, which combined Mushrooms, Zucchini, and Maui Onion, with Monterey Jack cheese and a vine ripened tomato sauce on top.  It was served with nine grain toast and a selection of Island jams.  The omelet was perfectly and divinely cooked, the cheese melting in your mouth with each bite.  The mushrooms in this dish were particularly enjoyable, meaty, and flavorful.  I love juicy mushrooms early in the morning! The tomato sauce added a wonderful acidity to the top of the omelet, and the Zucchini added a nice moistness.

My husband ordered the Hawaiian Sweet Bread Stuffed French Toast.  This looked like heaven on a plate! I only had one bite, but the richness of flavors employed in this Hawaiian French Toast were incomparable to any other kind I had sampled before.   The French Toast was filled with Guava Jam and topped with toasted coconut, and finished off with a Macadamia Nut Syrup.  Talk about decadent.

As we were finishing our breakfast, our waiter began asking us about our adventures in Hawaii, and when we mentioned that we were on our honeymoon, he brought out a special cake for us!   We were so pleasantly surprised, and the cake was supremely delicious to boot.  It was a Macadamia Nut Coffee Cake, with a rich sweetness and moist center, topped with roasted Macadamia Nuts.

I left this meal feeling satisfied and ready to take on another day of island adventures!
